Week One: Picking a Platform

Alright, sophomore year is underway at the University of North Alabama, and with it marks another fall semester of Honors forum. The subject of our first week: Picking a platform.

I'll explain; this year in our honors forum class we have to do 10 to 15 hours of community service per semester. Once I have donated my 10 to 15 hours to the inclusive organization of my choice, I have to then make a final video/presentation about my experiences. In order to decide which community service organization I want to work for, I have to pick a platform--a cause that I can personally connect with. In all honesty, I never really liked the community service projects I have donated my time to in the past. I don't mind sounding like a jerk, so long as I'm an honest jerk. Having said that, I had to think about what I really cared about. The answer came to me easily enough: I really care about culture.

Check out how awesome this town is! I came to UNA with optimism because I would be living in a town characterized by its musical history. Downtown Florence has such an old school feel to it; I want to make sure that people don't forget that.

So that's my platform as of today. I want to give my time to the town I will potentially be spending the next three years in. I'd like to make sure that no one takes the atmosphere of this town for granted, because it's quite a lovely town. I'll be getting in contact with Florence Main St. in the future to find out more information on how I can carry out my platform.

Okie doke. that's all I have to say about week one. Time to work. Bye bye.
